Bridge For California
                           - Bridge between Energy and Environment

We are a grassroots group of Santa Barbara citizens who share a common concern – our community’s environmental and economic health. The progress of our work to date has been the result of inputs from university professors and students, business leaders, environmentalists, former political leaders and other concerned citizens. Here is what we have discovered: both our economic and environmental issues can be solved by offshore energy development. Yes, That’s Right! The solution lies right beyond our shores. There are huge sums of money available from offshore energy development that can replenish our state and county coffers,and from separate royalties establish Trusts, earmarking monies strictly for:

  • Modernizing coastal water and sewage treatment plants e.g. cleaner waters
  • Research grants to accelerate development of
    (a) cleaner, more efficient utilization of vehicle fuels – gasoline and diesel;
    (b) alternative vehicle fuels;
    (c) alternative energy sources for homes, offices and power plants ·
  • Additional scholarships and the reduction of higher education student costs
Unfortunately, fear of a repeat of the ’69 Santa Barbara oil spill dominates every political platform – thus denying Californians the potential of these moneys. We believe that this deeply entrenched fear can be replaced by science, facts and education. Organizations that have hosted Bridge’s Powerpoint presentation, where such information has been made available, have been surprised and overwhelmingly enthusiastic about this idea. It is our purpose through education to bring about a new understanding, to build a bridge of communication and trust among the various interest groups that will serve to benefit all the citizens of the State of California.
